I have a dream:Youth & Climate change-Making Mother Earth cleaner & Greener

18 October 2024,Kohima: In celebration of creativity and commitment Don Bosco College Kohima hosted the 3rd season of Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (DBGYFF) themed "I have a dream : Youth&Climate change- Making Mother Earth cleaner & greener".The program took place within the college premises at 10:00 AM on 18th of October(Friday) with the faculties and students of DBCK, representatives from Kros College and Kohima College as attendees.The event aimed to empower young minds to address environmental issues through the lens of creativity and collaboration.

The event commenced with a highlight of the program by the leader Ms.Raychel (3rd semester,English) followed by a solemn invocation led by Fr.Christudoss (Director,St.Zatti computer Centre DBCK).Thereafter the welcome address was delivered by Dr.Jarani Mao (IQAC Coordinator) who cordially welcomed the faculties,students and special invitees i.e Fr C.M.Joseph (Parish Priest,Christ the King church kohima) and Mr.Keneivito Christopher Sophi (Asst.G.S, Nagaland Community Conserved Area Forum) and also expressed anticipation for the valuable insights by the special guests.The IQAC Coordinator also emphasized the significance of youth engagement in climate action and the role of creativity in driving awareness.

The program included a felicitation ceremony wherein the special invitees were presented with certificates by Dr.Xavier Mattam Rector.This was followed by a captivating special number performed by Ms.Atolu Thisa(5th Semester, Sociology) which set an uplifting tone for the festival.During the briefing of DBGYFF,Ms.Zavisanuo Khate (IQAC Consultant) provided an overview and significance of the event highlighting the festival's mission to discover,nurture and empower youths across the globe through film as a medium for change and encouraged young people to utilise visual storytelling as a powerful tool for raising awareness about climate change.

The key highlight of the event was the speech delivered by the two special invitees.Fr. C.M.Joseph ,Parish Priest (Christ the King church,Kohima) first took the platform and shared valuable insights on the aspects of climate change and emphasised that while we often refer to our planet as "mother earth" ,it is essential to remember that our earth is not a person but a creation-a home that requires our respect and care rather than worship and personification.A key points raised was the necessity of mastering solutions to the problems posed by climate change and the need to adopt a more intelligent and spiritually grounded approach to environmental stewardship.The speaker also encouraged the audience to bring spiritual aspects into the conversation about climate change and noted that by embracing the Godly way of loving our neighbours we can foster a more sustainable relationship with our planet.

Next,the platform was given to Mr.Keneivito Christopher Sophi,Asst.G.S (Nagaland Community Conserved Area Forum).He began his speech by expressing gratitude to the organizers for the invitation .His message emphasized on the degrading climate and environment reinforcing the need for youth initiative and participation in bringing change.He emphasised that climate change needs us because we are the powerhouse and possess the ability to bring about transformative solutions and also echoed a poignant reminder that the environment is borrowed from the future generations and not inherited from our forefathers .This reminder served as a call to realise that we must pass on a healthy planet to the next generation .He concluded his speech with the saying "Act today in such a way that you don't have to blush tomorrow".

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by  Dr.Tsutshowe-u Sekhano (IQAC Assistant Coordinator) who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, organizers and supporters who made the event possible.This was followed by the first screening of the film at 11:30 AM in different classrooms of the college.Students of all semesters , representatives from kros college and kohima college and the special invitees actively participated for the film screening.
